Liposuction is one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures
today and can be done on many different parts of the body. Known
medically as suction lipectomy or lipoplasty, it removes fat from
between skin and muscle. The key to having a terrific outcome with
liposuction is finding the right surgeon for your procedure, one who
is an “artist” as much as a doctor in sculpting and shaping the area
of your body that you want to work on.
In 2006, nearly 403,684 people had liposuction.
Statistics are courtesy of the American Society for Aesthetic
Plastic Surgery.
I have had liposuction in conjunction with my High Lateral Tension
Abdominoplasty (see the Body Lift section). The technique is often
used in conjunction with other procedures to help achieve the final
shape and look that a patient desires, or it can be used on its own
to remove fat that just won’t go away with any amount of exercise.
Always remember, any surgical procedure carries risks, so be an
informed patient!
